“Because our mission is to help support their mission.” – GiveGab

Launched in August 2013, GiveGab provides the ultimate platform for nonprofit organizations and volunteers – the website bridges mobility, social media and volunteerism.

For nonprofits, GiveGab is the simple solution to sign up and create events. The website explains the 501c organization, and what type of volunteers it seeks.

For volunteers, GiveGab allows them to upload resumes, find local volunteer opportunities, communicate with others in the space, and log hours. The volunteer section also features an easily navigable social network and a slick community map, which displays organizations that require help in your neighborhood or elsewhere. Though the site was successful, the next logical step was providing users with a trick mobile volunteer app.

The Challenge

For GiveGab’s founder, Charlie Mulligan, the challenge was designing an iOS app that would allow people to quickly find volunteer opportunities that mattered to them. The volunteer app needed to provide a platform that simplified the following:

  • Create and launch fundraising campaigns
  • Easily track campaigns
  • Post and broadcast volunteer opps
  • Social aspect to allow interaction of volunteers in one place
  • Allow easy communication with supporters
  • Record volunteer hours for easy tracking and reporting
  • Engage supporters
  • Attract lifelong volunteers

GiveGab’s development team – though highly talented in other areas – did not have experience creating an app from scratch. This is when GiveGab reached out to APPEK.

The Solution

APPEK provided the ultimate solution for GiveGab; the company was willing to work in tandem with the GiveGab team, providing a wealth of knowledge and best practices. Working closely with the GiveGab team, APPEK white boarded the app pages, and built a backend that allowed for simple usability. Besides actual iOS app development, APPEK also educated the GiveGab team on all aspects of creating and updating it.

The Results

Rated at nearly 5 Stars on Apple’s App Store, GiveGab has garnered 10s of 1000s of downloads across the globe. To date, nearly a half-million nonprofits are accessible on GiveGab, which provides 1000s of volunteer updates. The volunteer app allows its users to interact with each other on the app’s social newsfeed – “The Gab” – where users post comments and photos, and reflect on the united world of volunteerism.

GiveGab has received multiple positive press views in Forbes, Fox 5 News, FireceMobileIT, iOS podcast, PC World, and Marketwatch.
